democracy in action

I present the following nominated fst month themes without comment commented all to hell, because I'm a catty bastard tonight:

Drugs (because I want five thousand copies of 'The Perfect Drug' made available to me)

Mistakes (okay, while this could be cool in a 'oops I caused the Third Impact' way, it's more likely to be 'an fst for the time I broke my special Prince of Tennis watch')

Seven deadly sins (I'm thinking of starting a 'sloth' fansite, myself)

Rainbow (search iTunes for songs with colours in title, lather, rinse, repeat)

Nature (those $9.99 classical CDs they sell at Target have totally beaten you to it, man)

World historic events: battles, usurpings, crownings, invasions, etc. (a student of mine asked me today, 'What's your favourite war?')

A ST devoted to your interpretation and emotional ties to a color (search iTunes for songs with colours in title, lather, rinse, repeat)

The Victorian Era (logical drive malfunction, no such thing as a fan of the Victorian Era)

Organizations, both real and fictional (oh, just come out and say 'OrgXIII month!')

Canon appreciation (The 1812 Overture! ... oh, one n. ... ... seriously, what?)

Letter: Either the artist or the song title must start with the same letter as your username (I feel sorry for those folk whose usernames start with underscores)

Ways for the world to end (yes, because I five thousand copies of 'It's the End of the World As We Know It')

An FST for breaking stereotypes (made entirely of music that only reinforces them?)

The USA 2008 Presidential Election (only if someone includes the 'Barack the Magic Negro' song Rush has been playing)

FST for Best Friends (again, possibly cool in the fandom sense, but will end up being 'this is for me and my beta-reader')

Hot and Cold (hot/cold otpppppp!!!)

Flight (five thousand copies of 'Learning to Fly,' etc.)

Crack pairings (...shit, and this one's got the most votes of all!)

Current Mood: bitchy bitchy

Re: <3

I also thought of starting a pride fansite. It'd be prettier than yours.

"The USA 2008 Presidential Election"
I LAUGHED when I saw that. I can't imagine how that would be a good idea.

Nor I, I assure you.

Your icon is strangely hypnotic.

I really hate the term 'Crack Pairing'. I mean, if you wanna ship Captain Jack Harkness and Midnighter then be my guest, but 'Crack' is one of those painfully over-used fangirl words that's right up their with "Squee" "Bishie" "Teh Smex" and "Glomp".

Why can't what just call them what they are? "Crystal Methanthidmine Pairings"?

And I would NEVER give fangirls enough credit to actually have HEARD of Pink Floyd.

(So what WAS your favorite war?)

The other thing there is that such things inevitably delve into the 'making shit up' portion of our program. I, too, could put together 15 random songs and construct a storyline around them. ...In fact, that almost seems like a really awesome challenge, and I shall perhaps do it once I get my computer back.

Captain Jack is way not the Midnighter's type.

He actually meant 'what was your favourite war to study in school?', and amended the question when I pointed out to him how strange his original inquiry had been, but it probably has to be the American Civil War, since it's just that special kind of fucked-up. Plus, I read Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels, like, twice when I was in eighth grade. But that's neither here nor there.

Is this ALL!? I saw a dozen more in that list I'd like to personally mock and deride. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I HATE FSTS THAT AREN'T ACTUALLY ABOUT YOUR FANDOM. Hell, even crack pairings are preferable to shit like "letters" (yes, I AM a fan of the alphabet, but it is not a FANDOM) or "breaking stereotypes" (yes, I love "She" by Green Day and would enjoy having 100 copies of it, most of which would be reposts of when I last posted it).

oh and one of my kids asked the librarian very earnestly for books on world war III. He was very disappointed to hear there hadn't been one yet.
